Chapter 20. The exterior of the Ingate Firewall 1600

  1. Ethernet ports. Ethernet ports for connecting the firewall to the network. Use Ethernet cables only.

  2. Power LED. This LED is lit when the firewall is connected to a power outlet and switched on.

  3. HD LED. This LED indicates that the firewall hard drive is accessed.

  4. Up button. The Up button is usually used for going up in a menu on the display. On an Ingate Firewall, the button has no effect.

  5. ESC button. On an Ingate Firewall the ESC button is only used in combination with the Enter button. When the firewall is restarted, the display will show when to press the buttons to make the firewall erase the current password and enter wait mode. In this mode, it waits for a reconfiguration made by a magic ping or the installation program (see chapter 3, Installing Ingate Firewall). Before one of these is performed, no traffic will be let through the firewall.

  6. Down button. The Down button is usually used for going down in a menu on the display. On an Ingate Firewall, the button has no effect.

  7. Enter button. On an Ingate Firewall the Enter button is only used in combination with the ESC button.

  8. Link LEDs. There are link LEDs, one for each port. A steadily shining LED indicates that the port is connected to a network. A blinking LED indicates activity on the port.

  9. 10/100/1000 MBit LEDs. The LEDs indicate what kind of network the port is connected to. When the LED is not lit, the port is connected to a 10 MBit network.

For Eth2-Eth5, a lit LED indicates that a 100 MBit network is connected.

Eth0 and Eth1 are GBit compatible. For these ports, a green LED indicates that a 100 MBit network is connected. A yellow LED indicates that a 1000 MBit network is connected.

  10. RESET button. Press this button (a pencil or other thin device is needed) to reset the firewall.

  11. Serial port. Serial port for connecting the firewall to a workstation. This is needed when installing the firewall (see also chapter 3, Installing Ingate Firewall).

  12. Display. The display shows status for the firewall and also indicates when to press the Enter and ESC buttons during boot to enter wait mode. In wait mode, the firewall waits for a new password and can also receive a new IP address.
