MEDIAtor Expands Microsoft LCS Capabilities Beyond IM for users within a federation.
Microsoft Live Communications Server offers businesses
tremendous cost savings and increased efficiency, especially
for enterprises with workers who are geographically separated.
Employees can see which colleagues are online and available
using the presence function – regardless of their location
– and communicate using voice, video or application sharing
to collaborate in realtime.
With the Access Proxy, LCS-enabled networks can use IM
and presence between enterprises – within a federation. However,
they are unable to utilize voice, video or other media session based
applications within the federation. This is because the
Access Proxy handles SIP signaling and authentication only
– not media.
Ingate’s MEDIAtor works in tandem with the Access Proxy to handle
media traffic, solving Network Address Translation (NAT)
traversal within a federation for all SIP-based media applications,
including voice and video. In this manner, MEDIAtor takes
the idea of realtime collaboration one step further by allowing
businesses to leverage the full potential of Microsoft LCS
not just within their own enterprise, but with partners, customers
and vendors using a Microsoft Live Communications Server
and Access Proxy solution as well.
