Ingate Launches Powerful SIP-capable Firewall for Smaller Enterprise Customers, Branch Offices and Home Workers

With Ingate Firewall® 1200 smaller enterprise, branch offices and home workers can benefit from person-to-person realtime communication such as presence, instant messaging, video conferencing and VoIP.

Stockholm, Sweden - September 4, 2002 - Ingate Systems, developer of the world's first SIP-capable enterprise firewalls, today announced that it is widening its product range with the introduction of Ingate Firewall® 1200. Ingate Firewall 1200 is designed to provide complete firewall protection for smaller enterprise, branch offices and home workers, including support for SIP-based person-to-person communication. SIP, or Session Initiation Protocol, is the IETF signalling protocol for IP telephony, presence, instant messaging, and video conferencing. Existing enterprise firewalls block SIP media streams and prevent enterprises from realizing the time and money-saving benefits of real-time communications.

Ingate Firewall® 1200 offers the same firewall functions as other Ingate Firewall® products including VPN termination and support for SIP traffic. In addition to its feature richness the Ingate Firewall® 1200 is small and versatile. The management interface for the Ingate Firewall® 1200 is the same Web-based Graphical User Interface (GUI) that has been cited by Ingate customers and the media as easy to use and one of the hallmarks of Ingate's products.

The Ingate Firewall® 1200 supports both stateful inspection and packet filtering. In addition to the unique SIP proxy, the Ingate Firewall® 1200 contains proxies for all standard protocols, including TCP, UDP, FTP and DHCP. The Ingate Firewall® 1200 also supports Network Address Translation (NAT) and Port Address Translation (PAT) in combination with all other features. The DHCP client allows the Ingate Firewall® 1200 to receive a dynamic IP address from an external DHCP server. This feature is particularly useful for branch or home offices where the network provider does not assign permanent IP addresses. All Ingate products come with unlimited data user licenses and free security updates.

The Ingate Firewall® 1200 is configured for a single SIP user, but may be expanded to support as many as 400 users through license subscriptions. The Ingate Firewall® 1200 will support approximately 40 simultaneous voice conversations using SIP and may be upgraded to include a Quality of Service feature that manages the bandwidth usage to provide the clearest voice quality. Ingate's products are the only firewalls on the market today that can support Transport Layer Security that provides encryption for Instant Messages.
